Stamp Club Card

Here is the second card we made at our January Stamp Club workshop. We used lots of new product from the Stampin' Up Occasions Mini Catalogue on this card.

Directions:

* Die cut heart in Basic Grey card stock with Hearts Framelit Die. Stamp heart image on Whisper White with Riding Hood Red ink. Cut out and adhere to grey heart.

* On Basic Grey card stock, emboss one end with the Adorning Accent Embossing Folder. Place Adorning Accent Edgelit Die over embossed side and run through Big Shot again to create scalloped edge. Notice how each scallop "arcs" over an embossed heart. Neat!

January Stamp Club Card

It's that time again for a post of one of the cards we made at our Stamp Club. It seems like a long time since we last met in December and it was fun to get together. Unfortunately it was a small group and many members were missed. Hope to see you next time!!

Of course I was inspired by a card I saw on Splitcoaststampers. You can see it HERE. So, not my own idea. It is a fairly straight forward card to make just by looking at the supply list. To help you assemble the frog you can use Tombo White Liquid Glue or a Two-Way Glue Pen. Here are the punches I used and the number of punch outs:

Extra Large Oval - 1 Old Olive
Large Oval - 1 Certainly Celery, 3 Old Olive
1/2" Circle - 2 Certainly Celery
Owl - 1 Old Olive (the feet of owl are needed)

Other Supplies:

Stamps: Petite Pairs, I {Heart} Hearts
Paper: Whisper White, Basic Grey, Certainly Celery, DSP (retired), Old Olive
Ink: Basic Grey, Old Olive
Accessories: Punches (see above), Heart to Heart Punch (retired), Glue Dot, Dimensional, Googly Eyes, Sponge Dauber, Tombo White Liquid Glue, Old Olive Marker, White Taffeta Ribbon

As you can see, this card can be used as a "get well" card as the sentiment indicates. Or you can change the sentiment and use it as a Valentine's card.

This past Sunday, I led a card making event at my church with children from ages 7 to 11. We made a card using the same frog. I'll try to post a sample. Same frog, different design. They thought it was cute.

December Stamp Club Card

This is the second card we made at our Stamp Club last week. It was not hard to make but took a little more time than the last card. And of course it is using Baja Breeze....again. Must be my new favourite colour.

I find that the placement of the Cherry Cobbler accents (bird, sentiment and button) are a little off balance. Next time I don't think I would have the bird and button on the same side of the card. It needs to be in a more of a triangular placement (Is that even a term??).

Supplies:

Directions:

The main image uses basic stamping techniques:

Stamp the tree trunk in Chocolate Chip and randomly stamp snowflakes in Baja Breeze. Stamp the bird on a scrap of Whisper White in Cherry Cobbler and cut out. Pop up on tree with a dimensional.

To make the Baja Breeze upper and lower borders:

I ran a piece of 4 x 5-1/4 Baja Breeze card stock through the Big Shot with the Snow Burst Embossing Folder. Then I cut a 3/4" strip to be placed above the main image square. Adhere it to the Chocolate Chip card stock.

Flip the Baja Breeze card stock upside-down so that the pattern is indented. I created a template of "snowdrifts" on thin cardboard. Place the template on the Baja Breeze cs and trace with a pencil. Flip the template over and place further down on the Baja Breeze card stock. Cut out first snowdrift. Measure down from the highest drift and using cutter, cut at 1". Repeat for second snowdrift. (Hope that makes sense.) Adhere on to Chocolate Chip card stock. The snowdrifts should overlap onto the Whisper White cs/main image.

Add baker's twine and button. Now adhere to card base.

Complete by adding white glue to the centers of the snowflakes and edges of the snowdrifts. Sprinkle with Sliver Glass Glitter.

Dimensions:

Whisper White: A2 Card Base, 4 x 4

Baja Breeze: 4 x 3/4, 4 x 1 (two)

Chocolate Chip: 4-1/8 x 5-3/8

Another November Stamp Club Card:

Once again I got ideas off Splitcoaststampers. HERE is the card I CASED. I jumped at the chance to get out the Paper Crimper which has been lying dormant for many years!! I bought it when I first started as a Demonstrator with Stampin' Up and actually never used it in a workshop. I like the look of a corrugated strip.

Another card for the Stamp Club.....

This card was inspired by THIS card on Splitcoaststampers. Changed a few things but looks pretty much the same. The one thing I love about this card is that instead of ribbon, a strip of designer fabric is used instead. Ingenious!

Dimensions:

Crumb Cake: A2 Card Base; Scrap for labe

Pool Party: 5-3/8 x 4-1/8

Soft Suede: 2-3/4 x 4

Very Vanilla: 2-5/8 x 3-7/8; scrap for circle

Instructions:

Punch Label and crumple to distress. Sponge edges with Soft Suede ink. Stamp sentiment in Pool Party ink and punch out with circle punch.

Stamp Oak leaves on Pool Party card stock with Pool Party ink. Sponge edges with Pool Party ink and gently distress with edge distresser.

Distress and sponge edges of Soft Suede card stock.

Main Image:

Stamp "french script" with Soft Suede ink randomly over Very Vanilla card stock.

Randomly stamp "droplets" on same card stock.

Rub card stock with embossing buddy to get rid of static. Stamp Oak Leaf with Versa Mark ink and sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder. Heat.

Sponge randomly over leaf area with Soft Suede and Pool Party ink.

Distress edges and sponge with Soft Suede ink.

Adhere all pieces together and attach embellishments.

Finally!! This is the card we made at the October stamp club workshop!! Whaaat?!? But it is half-way through November. I know, I know. This job thing is getting in the way of stamping and blogging. Anyway, here are a few details:

Tri-Shutter Card

Another card we made at the September stamp club workshop was a Tri-Shutter card. I was a little indimidated by this style of card. But after following a great TUTORIAL on Splitcoaststampers I found that it really wasn't too hard to make.

After cutting the 5-1/2 x 12 card stock to make the tri-shutter folds, the rest was very easy to put together.

Stamping was done only on the main image panel. By the way, add adhesive to only ONE side of the main image panel. Otherwise your card will stick shut. This has happened to me many times!!

Also, I would have liked to have coloured the balloons with markers right on the stamp, but I don't have the Pool Party Marker. So stamped the balloons on scrap card stock in So Saffron and Pool Party ink and then cut them out. Not to quick!

Penguin Punch Art

One of my stamp clubs began meeting again in September after a summer break. It was great to get together and stamp. This is one of the cards we made. I saw THIS card on Splitcoaststampers by Renee. She also has a blog, Stamping for Sanity, that has wonderful cards. I thought this card would be a fun one to use with the club.

I guess I would have to say that the trickiest thing about this card is putting the penguin and balloons together. It's not hard but is time consuming to glue all the little pieces together. There are three punches I used to create the main image: 3/4" Circle Punch (balloons), Pennant Punch (hat), and the Owl Punch. I took a photo of all the pieces that need to be punched out. Sorry that it is not a very clear picture.

Another thing to note about this card is that I popped up the Melon Mango and Whisper White square with double dimensionals so it could fit over the Melon Mango Pompoms nicely. It had a warped look when I didn't do that.

I think everything else is self-explanitory by looking at the card and supply list.

Delicate Doilies is another new set from the new Stampin' Up Catalogue. I really like this set but I debated in getting it because I think it might be challenging to come up with different ideas on how to use it. It is a set that I would not normally choose. Wonderful Pinwheels

You may have noticed that pinwheels seem to be all the rage right now. Stampin' Up has a new stamp set in the current and NEW catalogue that have a variety of pinwheels ~ Sweet for the Sweets set. I have also seen a number of cards out there with actual pinwheels on them. I thought that was such a cute idea and when I saw THIS CARD I decided I need to try making them for myself. I had never made a pinwheel before, or at least not since I was a child, so I had to go on you tube to find instructions.

There are a couple of details you might like to know about this card....

The square size of the pinwheels is 2" x 2". As you can see that makes them quite large. The card that I CASED had smaller pinwheels.

To make the pinwheel "sticks" or holders, I used the birdcage stand from the Aviary stamp set. Just make sure the "legs" of the stand don't show up on your card.

To make the pinwheel I found that I couldn't hold down the inner points with my fingers very easily. So what I did was place my paper on the foam of the Mat Pack, fold in a corner and hold it down with my paper piercer. And keep doing that with all four corners. When they are all in place, just press firmly to make a hole through all corners and poke piercer all the way through. Now add your brad through the hole. Viola! And there's your pinwheel.

My boys have been at a summer day camp all week. The end of the school year has arrived. My boys will be ending school this week. So last week I worked on teacher gifts. I have made a set of cards for each of them and will be giving a gift certificate for McNally Robinson Books as well. This is one of the cards in the card set of five. I find the photo doesn't do it justice. IN REAL LIFE, the cork matches much better to the Crumb Cake card stock and the butterfly is Baja Breeze. Here it looks almost like Pool Party, one of the new In Colors. Oh well. Still learning to take proper photos. :(

Fall to Layout 146 and Colour Q Challenge #90

I must have been on a roll today because I was able to meet the requirements for two sketch challenges: the Fall to Layout 146 on the Clean and Simple Blog and the Colour Q Challenge #90 on the Colour Q Blog. This does not usually happen for me!! But today it worked out for some reason. I did make a change to the colour challenge though. I don't have Poppy Parade or Brilliant Blue so I used Riding Hood Red and Pacific Point instead. Hope that is OK. :)

June Stamp Club Card

Faux Metal Technique

Directions:

Round corners of various pieces of card stock. Note that not all corners have been rounded.

Stamp the line-art flower in Tangerine Tango ink on the Whisper White card stock.

Stamp the Wood Grain stamp on the Early Espresso card stock with Early Espresso ink.

Adhere stamped pieces to the Tangerine Tango card stock.

Use Early Espresso Bakers' Twine to tie a bow.

To create the Tangerine Tango main image you will need your stamp, smallest piece of Whisper White card stock, VersaMark, Tangerine Tango Embossing Powder and a Heat Gun.

Follow THIS TUTORIAL on Splitcoaststampers to create the Faux Medallion Technique. (If you use silver, gold or bronze embossing powder it will create the true Faux Metal look.)

Once "medallion" is complete, adhere to Whisper White and Early Espresso card stock squares. Add dimensionals on the back and complete card.

TIP #1: When embossing the "medallion", you can either add more embossing powder immediately after heating. Or you can wait until medallion has cooled and then ink up again with more VersaMark. Make sure the embossing powder has cooled otherwise the ink pad will get messed up.

TIP #2: If you don't like how your stamped image turned out in the melted embossing powder, ink up with VersaMark, add more embossing powder and reheat until smooth again.

Dimensions:

Whisper White: 4-1/4 x 5x5 card base, 3-1/4 x 2-1/2, 1-7/8 x 1-7/8; 1-3/4 x 1-3/4

Early Espresso: 3-1/4 x 1-1/2, 2 x 2

Tangerine Tango: 3-3/8 x 2-5/8

Shirt Fold Technique

At our June Stamp Club we tried out new products from the Summer Mini Catalogue. This was a very simple card to make with the most difficult thing being the shirt. I found a blog, Stamp a Little Love, that had a great tutorial the Shirt Fold Technique. CLICK HERE to learn how to make these shirts.

A couple of other details:

The ties are stamped in VersaMark on Crumb Cake card stock.

The tie on the shirt is stamped in Early Espresso ink on a scrap of Whisper White card stock, cut out and glued or taped down.

The Early Espresso card stock is embossed with the Square Lattice embossing folder.

See?!?! Fairly simple card to make.

I pulled out an old favourite for this card - the retired Watercolour Trio stamp set. This is one of those sets that I will never get rid of. I also pulled out some twill tape that has been sitting around forever. I don't use it very often but I should since it is so nice to work with.

Masked Every Moment

Another card we made at our May Stamp Club workshop.

Directions:

Stamp image with Black Stazon ink in bottom corner of Whisper White card stock. Make sure you leave enough room for the eyelet.

Create a mask for your image on a Post-It note and cut out. Place on top of stamped image. Here is a great TUTORIAL on masking. Instead of stamping another image, we sponged around our mask with Bashful Blue ink.

You will need to create a Template that fits over the 3-1/2 x 4-3/4 Whisper White card stock. The open rectangle measures at 2 x 2-7/8 but you can make it as big or small as you want.

Use a yellow sponge, not sponge dauber, to pick up Bashful Blue ink and "pounce" over image. Around edges I also rub in a circular motion to get a more smooth and even effect.

Colouring with Water Colour Crayons:

To colour the image I used the Neutrals and Brights Water Colour Crayons. On the larger parts, like the yellow part of the bird, I coloured directly on the image with the crayon. For the narrow areas, Olive, Black and Pumpkin Pie areas, I picked up colour from the crayon with my blender pen. The bull rushes were coloured with Crumb Cake and then shaded in with Early Espresso. Here is a TUTORIAL if you would like to see photos of how it is done. This tutorial uses an Aquapainter instead of a blender pen. Both work.

I used the Crop-o-dile to add the eyelets but you can use whatever eyelet setter you feel comfortable with. I set the eyelets through the Whisper White and Bashful Blue card stock. Then add the linen thread.

Edited on June 15, 2011. Today someone left a anonymous comment saying that I made a "direct copy" of THIS card, I think,(after searching the site) on Splitcoaststampers. Unfortunately I don't remember where I got inspiration to make this card since I made it a few months ago and only posted it now. It looks like I must have since I do see similarities although to me it doesn't look like a direct copy. I often look at a few cards when I am trying to figure how I might use a particular stamp set. Up here in Canada we are having the "May Long". Hope you are having a good one. We are having a bit of rainy weather - after a gorgeous week. Oh well. But that means I can finally get this post done!

This is one of the cards we made at our May Stamp Club workshop. We used two techniques on this card: the Colour Spritzer and using the Mat Pack to Pierce a Curved Border.

Directions:

Colour Spritzer - We used Marina Mist and Crumb Cake Markers with the Colour Spritzer. The markers were spritzed on their matching card stock. The spritzer gives a subtle effect to the card stock. I found that you need to make sure you put the nib of the marker directly against the part of the spritzer where the air comes out. Angle the spritzer until you find the desired position until you like how the spray is coming out. You might have to play around a bit.

Paper Piercing a Curved Border - I used the instructions on THIS TUTORIAL. First I made a template out of thin cardboard of the same size circle. I wanted to make sure my circle image stayed clean and wouldn't get smudged or bent. Then I followed the above instructions.

I think everything else is self-explanatory by looking at the photo. :)

I had some pre-cut card stock lying around that was used for a stamp class and I didn't want to make the same card. So I came up with something else. As you can see I used the Presto Patterns DSP which is already "embossed" for you. All I did was sponge on some Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Certainly Celery ink on it. TIP: I find that by rubbing the sponge in a circular motion brings out the "embossed" image more than just dabbing or pouncing the sponge on the paper.

Brayered Vintage Wallpaper

I was looking around Splitcoaststampers and saw THIS note bag which inspired the card we made at our Stamp Club workshop in April. I thought brayering over the debossed side of the card stock was a neat idea and really like the effect.

Brayer on Debossed Card Stock:

Run the Early Espresso card stock in Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder through the Big Shot. Lay the card stock down, making sure the embossed image is indented. Ink up brayer in Early Espresso ink and roll over card stock until ink is even over the entire piece of card stock. The debossed image, or indented parts, will not have any ink on them so they will appear lighter in colour.

Use the Early Espresso and Tangerine Tango markers to colour the words on the Word Play stamp. Huff on stamp before stamping on card stock.

Run one Tangerine Tango flower through the Big Shot in the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder. Sponge all edges of flowers, punched out leaves and card stock with sentiment. You can add a score line to the center of the leaves if you wish.

Use a paper piercer to add a brad to the center of the flowers.

Adhere layers of card stock and flowers. Use a two-way glue pen to glue the thin strip of tangerine tango card stock to the card. Pop of the flower with a dimensional.

Tangerine Tango: 3-7/8 x 5-1/8; 3/8 strip for scalloped border; 1/8 x 3/8: squares for two flowers

Here Comes Spring With a Little Pompom Trim

This is one of the cards we made for our April Stamp Club workshop. Finally found some time to post the cards. Sorry for the wait.

For this card there were options depending on what people wanted their card to look like. Using the same layout and supplies, you could either stamp directly on the Whisper White background OR after stamping, you could stamp the same flowers on Whisper White scraps, cut out and then pop up with dimensionals.

Just a note about adhering the pompom trim: Add a line of glue on top of the card stock where you want to place the trim. Add the trim on top of the line of glue and press down gently. Trim edges of pompom that extend over the edges of the card.

I had some left over card stock cut out from the stamp classes I did in March, and rather than just throwing them in my scrap folders, I thought I would make a bunch of completed cards. These are variations on THIS card. As you can see I tried to make some more masculine than the others.

Time-Saving Tip: When you are making a card, why not make a duplicate at the same time. You can make it exactly the same or slightly different. That way you have a card ready to go for when you need it. You can hold off on the sentiment until you know what you will be using the card for.

Here is a very simple card that that was made at a couple of card classes in March. By switching the patterned paper, you can make the card look more masculine. For example, try using the striped patterned paper from the Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper. Once all the card stock pieces are cut, it is a very quick card to assemble.

Elegant Soiree Beveled Window Panes

Stamp Club: Part 2

Rather than just tying your ribbon into a knot or bow, another way to attach ribbon to a card is by using the Beveled Window Panes. Using them is a great way to use ribbon differently. But more importantly, it definitely shows off the stamped image as the focal point with a bang!

That being said, I found that they are a bit tricky to attach but well worth the trouble. I found that the way I attach the windows is with the ribbon itself. To help keep the window in place, I added glue dots behind the ribbon near where the linen thread is tied. Just adds a bit more stability.

To make a Square Border using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, I used this VIDEO TUTORIAL. This link shows how you can make a rectangle border as well.

Take a Spin on a Cupcake

Stamp Club Card: Part 1

At our Stamp Club this month, we made a Spinner Card using the Create a Cupcake stamp set. I followed THIS TUTORIAL on how to make a spinner card. Check it out 'cause it explains it a lot better than I would by just writing down the instructions. Plus it has photos!!

A couple of directions on the card we made:

First I taped the DSP on top of the Early Espresso (Rose Red for the stamp club members), flipped it over and drew two lines at 5/8" and 1-1/8". Then I used the 1/2" Circle Punch, pushed it all the way in, centered it on the two lines and punched. Then I cut along the two lines that I had drawn between the the punched out circles. You can use either a Craft Knife to cut the two lines or a paper cutter.

To make the cupcake more stable, I punched out a 1-3/8 circle and taped/glued the cupcake on top of that and then cut away the parts of the circle that was showing beneath the cupcake.

Follow tutorial to complete spinner. If you find that your penny is not staying and sort of falling out, use a nickel instead.

I found that the cupcake spun nicely when it was raised away from the card substantially. So what you need to do is double your dimensionals: Use two dimensionals on top of each other in all four corners and then in the middle of the long sides. (If you are using a nickel, you will not be able to add the dimensionals on the top middle of the card.) I hope that all makes sense!

Attaching Jumbo Grommets:

To attach grommet, place grommet over ribbon and one layer of card stock. (I tried it over two or three layers and the grommet would not stay nicely.) Place these over the sponge part of the mat pack(or use a mouse pad). Hammer the grommet in, flop over and hammer the spikes flat.

Elegant Black Magic

Another one with the Black Magic technique and Bliss stamp set. The butterfly uses this technique. I stamped the flourish in Whisper White ink and then embossed in white embossing powder. I stamped the word "bliss" in Versa Mark ink , so it is very subtle on the Crumb Cake card stock. To create the scalloped edge, I scalloped the edge of the Crumb Cake card stock of which the main image is stamped on. Then I scalloped the edges of two strips of card stock and adhered them on to the stamped card stock. The ribbon covers the line/top edge of the scallops so you cannot see where I adhered them.

Brick Wall Nature Walk

Directions:

Run Very Vanilla card stock through the Big Shot with the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder

Adhere Botanical Gazette DSP pieces to Chocolate Chip card stock.

Sponge edge of small Very Vanilla card stock with Chocolate Chip ink and then adhere to small Chocolate Chip card stock. (You may sponge large piece of Very Vanilla c.s. if you wish.)

Colour directly on the Nature Walk Plant with Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive markers. Spritz or mist with water from about 6" away. Stamp on the water colour paper. Stamp one or two more times without reinking. Let dry. HERE is a tutorial on Misting with Markers.

Follow THIS tutorial on the BRICK WALL TECHNIQUE. TIP: Draw your lines at the back of the piece of card stock or water colour paper that has your stamped image. Then number each brick so that it doesn't become a puzzle to put together later. )

Use Tombo Liquid Glue to glue on the bricks to the Vanilla card stock.

Tape a strip of Crochet Ribbon around one end of main image. Use THIS tutorial to tie your bow. Attach bow with a Glue Dot.

Add dimensionals to back of the small Chocolate Chip card stock.

Complete card.

Black Magic Technique

I followed THIS TUTORIAL on Splitcoaststampers to use the Black Magic Technique.

Just a few things to note when making the card:

Stampin' Up's Watercolour Pencils do not coincide with their Colour Collections. I tried to pick the pencils that matched the best with the Designer Series Papers in the card.

I used Early Espresso card stock instead of black. I felt that Early Espresso was dark enough to give the same effect as Black card stock.

On the photo, the Elegant Lines Embossing Folder is used on one of the Early Espresso squares. At our stamp club workshop, most people ended up using the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder since it seemed to match well with the design of the Friends Never Fade image.

TIP: If you find that your White Gel Pen isn't flowing properly, I often open the pen up, take out the inside ink holder and then blow on the top end to push the ink closer to the nib. This usually gets the ink flowing again.

Artistic Faux Tile

Just a few things to note about the making of the card.....

I made this card a while ago using the Faux Tile Technique. Click HERE for a tutorial on how to use this technique. You do have to put quite a bit of Crystal Effects on each square to cover the area. Plus I let it dry overnight. I found that Tombo Liquid Glue worked best to adhere the tiles to the Chocolate Chip card stock background.

The ribbon is just pleated with a glue dot stuck behind each pleat. I have also seen the ribbon without a glue dot but then each pleat sticks up a bit. A different look, but looks good too.

Also, to attach the brad, I used my crop-o-dile to punch through all the layers.

I really like the Love Impressions DSP in the Occasions mini. But you can't buy everything!!! I saw a card with a similar layout online but it used the DSP. Like I said, I don't have that paper so I created a similar look using the Timeless Type Junior Alphabet sizzlet dies. It did take a while to glue those letters on. But I think it was worth it in the end! :)

Valentine Petal Card Punch

Here is a more vintage-y Valentine's card for you. I really roughed up the edges of the card stock, especially the DSP. That I wanted to give a more ripped/very distressed look. I used the Jolly Holiday DSP since I have quite a bit left over from Christmas projects and workshops. There are a few sides of this paper that you can use for non-holiday projects which makes it quite versatile.

Just a heads up that the next number of cards will be Valentine's Day cards. Have you planned your V-Day yet? We usually have a fondu that day for dinner. Something to make it special for the whole family. I think I'll go for a chocolate fondu this year!

On this card I inked up the Take a Spin stamp in Pink Pirouette ink and then used a Real Red marker to colour the Valentine's triangle. I just coloured right over the pink ink since the red is a darker colour.

The pink scallop is not a border punch, but punched out circles. The circles are then glued in place to look like a large scalloped border.

I {Heart} Glimmer Paper and Whoooo?

Card Directions:

1. Stamp Woodgrain background stamp on Crumb Cake card base with Early Espresso ink.

2. Colour the Owl stamp with Pink Pirouette and Early Espresso markers. Stamp on Whisper White card stock. Cut out and add a dimensional to back of owl.

3. Stamp sentiment of your choice (I chose "thinking of you") in Early Espresso ink on small strip of Whisper White card stock.

4. Run Early Espresso card stock through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.

5. Make a small mark with a pencil halfway across the top of the card stock at 1". I made a mark on my oval punch where the center is. Line up these two marks (the one on the card stock and the one on the oval) so that there will be an equal amount of card stock on either side of the oval.

6. Adhere Whisper White strip with sentiment, punched out heart with dimensional and library clip, and add ribbon.

7. Use the Border Punch to add a scallop edge to the strip of Glimmer Paper. Adhere behind the Early Espresso card stock. (If the Glimmer strip peaks over into the oval, stamp the Woodgrain stamp on a scrap of Crumb Cake card stock and stick to back of oval. Then add the Glimmer border.

8. Complete card by adhering all pieces to the card base. Don't forget to add the owl.

Crumb Cake card base: 8-1/2 x 5-1/2

Early Espresso: 5-1/2 x 2

Glimmer Paper: 5-1/2 x 3/4 and scrap for heart

Whisper White: 2 x 1/2 and scrap for owl

Take a Spin on a Fan Fold Flower

Directions:

1. Adhere the Playdate DSP to the Chocolate Chip square of card stock. Stamp sentiment on bottom of card. Tape strip of grosgrain ribbon across seam of dsp. To make the bow, follow THIS VIDEO TUTORIAL. (By the way, we used this technique in December but with the seam binding ribbon instead.) Attach the bow with a glue dot.

2. Stamp the Take a Spin stamp in Tempting Turquoise ink on Whisper White card stock. Punch it out. Clean your stamp and stamp again on Whisper White with Real Red ink. Cut out the "triangle" you want and glue or tape it on top of the Turquoise image.

3. Poke a hole with a paper piercer in the center of your Take a spin image and add the game spinner hand. Add Sticky Tape to the back.

4. To make the Fan Fold Flower, follow THIS TUTORIAL.

TIP #1: To keep the flower together, I first stuck some sticky tape onto a piece of scrap card stock and then punched it out with the 1" circle punch. That was much easier than adding little bits of tape to the small circle. Took waaaay too much time.

TIP #2: When you are pressing/manouvering your according strip into your flower shape, try doing that with the "wrong side" colour up. That way instead of trying to slide the flower on top of the 1" circle and trying to keep it from flipping open again, you will only have to hold down the fan flower with one and and place the circle, with the sticky side down, on top of the flower. Viola! Flip it over and the flower is right-side-up and stuck together. Try it. Then it will all make sense. :)

5. Complete your card.

Whisper White card base: 8-1/2 x 4-1/4

Chocolate Chip: 8-1/8 x 8-1/8

Playdate DSP: 4 x 1-1/2 and 4 x 2-1/2 and 1-3/4 x 12

Whisper White: scrap for turquoise take a spin stamp and scrap for red take a spin stamp and for a 1" circle punch

Fall To Layout 122

I am currently taking the wallpaper off my kitchen walls. This is long overdue. When we first moved into our house almost 12 years ago the previous owners had just finished putting it up. They had actually only partially completed hanging it when we were viewing the house. I've never been keen on wallpaper but how can you take it down when it is so new and shiny? But after 12 years it is high time!! I thought I'd make a quick post while the wallpaper remover is doing its job.

This is the card I made using the FTL sketch from the Clean and Simple Blog. I cracked open the Aviary stamp set which I'd been looking forward to using. I got it just before Christmas. Love this set!

Well, by the time this gets posted, our family will be officially on holidays. I hope I am prepared by now and if not, what can I do?? There is some Christmas baking done (gluten-free and non-gluten-free), the house decorated, the guest room ready for my parents (they are visiting from BC and braving the Winnipeg weather), some meals in the freezer so I don't have to spend all my time cooking and maybe the dust-bunnies have disappeared. If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you are ready too.

Another card for the Venture Club and Stack Parties.

You might have noticed that I used Always Artichoke ink for the string of the ornament even though there is Old Olive in the Designer Series Paper and the scalloped trim. Normally I wouldn't do this because it isn't a perfect match. But when you are preparing cards for a Stack party, it is best not to "share" inks between the various cards. So, I needed to use a different green. Gold didn't seem to show up very well and I didn't like it in red for some reason. So Always Artichoke it stayed.

By the way, you know that vertical gold strip? Those were made from pieces of card stock I had saved and had been sitting in my pile for a very long time. Those little pieces do come in handy eventually!

Oops. I just realized that I forgot to take a picture of the card after it was altered. On the completed card I added a scalloped border in Old Olive card stock across the card (5 1/2" length); on top of the red, gold and white card stock. I used the Dotted Scalloped Ribbon Border Punch. It just seemed to finish off the card. You'll have to use your imagination to visualize it. :)

A Punched Cardinal Christmas

I saw this card online two days before the Stamp Club was going to meet and thought we just had to make this card. Many sites displayed their with a punched cardinal card but didn't have instructions or you had to pay to download them. I found one site HERE with very clear instructions. Thank you to the Stamping for Sanity Blog. Love her cards!

Directions:

1. Make the cardinal using the Two-Step Bird Punch and the above instructions. You can use the Tombo Liquid Glue or a Two-way Glue Pen to stick the bird together. Add dimensionals to the back.

2. Punch out a label in Whisper White card stock with the Decorative Label Punch. Add Dimensionals to the back.

3. Stamp "Seasons Greetings" with Old Olive ink on the Whisper White card base.

4. Using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, run the front half of the White card base through the Big Shot. Make sure that it will emboss so the dots are "bumpy" at the front of the card.

5. Adhere all pieces together.

Northern Flurry in Baja Breeze

Directions:

1. Place Baja Breeze card stock in embossing folder and run through Big Shot. Using a sponge dauber and Whisper White craft ink, lightly rub or tap the raised snowflakes. Add varying sizes of pearls to snowflakes. TIP: To remove pearls from sheet, carefully move the pearl "off it's spot" with your finger. Then use a tweezer to pick up pearl and place.

Ribbon:

2. Tape the Baja Breeze card stock to Whisper White card stock. Cut a "v" in the one end of a long piece of ribbon. Tape the other end to the back of the white card stock. Use a glue dot in the front if it is not lying flat. With a shorter piece of ribbon, tape ends together to make a "circle". Make flat and use glue dots to adhere to longer ribbon.

3. Stamp "Merry Christmas" in Not Quite Navy ink. Punch out using Decorative Label Punch. Stamp snowflake in Baja Breeze. Adhere to top of ribbon with a dimensional.

Option: Sponge edges of Baja Breeze card stock with Whisper White ink and a Sponge Dauber.

Dimensions:

Not Quite Navy Card Base: 8 1/2 x 5 1/2

Whisper White: 4 1/8 x 5 3/8

Baja Breeze: 4 x 5 1/4

Bell and Boughs with Champagne Glass Glitter

Here is the second card for the November Stamp Club. We tried a new ribbon technique on how to tie a bow. You can see the video on how to do this HERE.

Directions:

1. Stamp the image in Black Stazon ink and colour using Always Artichoke and Cherry Cobbler ink on watercolour paper.

2. Sponge edges in Crumb Cake ink.

3. Tape large Cherry Cobbler card stock and DSP together. Place strip of seam binding to front of card and tape in back. Make bow as in instructional video. (Thanks to Crafty Confessions blog!)

4. Tape watercoloured image, Always Artichoke and Cherry Cobbler card stock together. Add dimensionals to the back and adhere to the DSP layers and card base.

5. Use the Tombo Liquid Glue and run a bead of glue around the four sides of the Cherry Cobbler card stock. Sprinkle with Champagne Glass Glitter.

6. Add bow to edge with a glue dot.

So last night, at our December Club get-together, we made our November and December projects. We made four cards and one 3D item. Since that would end up being one long post, I'm going to spread them out. So stay posted. Here is Part 1 of the November cards.

Joyful Season with Letterpress Plate

Directions:

1. On letterpress plate, ink "stockings" with Old Olive Craft ink and "joyful season" with Cherry Cobbler Craft ink.

2. Place letterpress plate face up directly on tab 1 of Big Shot multipurpose platform. Add Dotto to back of watercolour paper and stick to clear cutting pad. CAREFULLY place paper and cutting pad on top of the letterpress plate. Line up carefully and holding firmly, wind through the Big Shot.

3. Assemble card.

French Foliage

Rock & Roll and Collage Techniques

Directions:

Collage Background:

Randomly stamp French Foliage images over Very Vanilla card stock in the following inks:

Poplar leaf in Cajun Craze ink
Oak leaf in Cajun Craze ink. Stamp- off once on scrap paper before stamping on card stock. This gives it a lighter colour
Script in Rich Razzleberry ink
Paris Circle in Rich Razzleberry ink
Ink up an Acrylic Block in More Mustard ink

Small Square Image:

1. Sponge edges of Very Vanilla square with More Mustard ink.

2. Stamp Script in Rich Razzleberry ink in center of Very Vanilla square.

3. Ink Poplar Leaf in More Mustard ink. Roll the edges in Cajun Craze ink. Stamp on Very Vanilla square.

Complete card:

1. Adhere layers together.

2. Add dimensionals to the back of the Collage image and the small square Leaf image.

3. Add ribbon to collage image.

4. Finish card.

Rich Razzleberry: 3 3/8 x 4 5/8

Baroque Motifs and Big Beautiful Butterfly

Directions:

1. Stamp Baroque Motifs flourish, small flower and sentiment in Soft Suede ink on Soft Suede card stock.

2. Use Scallop Trim Border Punch to punch both edges of Newsprint DSP. Adhere to Cherry Cobbler strip.

3. Add Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding and then Lace to the strip.

4. Use Bigshot to cut out small butterflies (Beautiful Wings Embosslit). Glue to background with a Two-way Glue Pen.

5. Fold Naturals Ivory square in half and place over the "half butterfly" on the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die. Run through Bigshot. TIP: When placing your folded card stock over the half butterfly, make sure that your see the ends of the lines of the middle part of the butterfly. Doing this will ensure that you cut your butterfly completely.

6. With a clean Baroque Motifs flourish stamp, stamp on butterfly with VersaMark. Emboss with Clear Embossing Powder.

7. Sponge over butterfly with Cherry Cobbler and Soft Suede ink. (If you would like your butterfly multicoloured, add more ink colours as suggested in the Supply List. The example that was followed is on page 133 in the Stampin' Up Idea Book & Catalogue). Once you are done sponging, take a tissue or baby wipe and gently wipe the ink off the embossed flourish.

8. Punch a 1/8" hole with Hand Held Punch. Add brad. Add dimensionals to back of butterfly.

9. Complete card.

Watercolouring with Reinkers

When I first saw cards using the watercolouring technique using reinkers (sometimes called Reinker Spread Technique) it was one of those things I had to try immediately. And it is so much fun!

Patty Bennett, a Stampin' Up! demonstrator has a great tutorial video on how to make the flowers, so I won't repeat her instructions in this post. Click HERE to see her tutorial.

The rest of the card goes as follows:

1. Create flower first so that it has time to dry. Then cut around embossed line.

2. To create leaves, use the Square Lattice Folder and Big Shot to emboss Old Olive card stock. Now use the Little Leaves Sizzlet on the embossed Old Olive card stock. Cut three. Tip: By making your leaves in this order, it gives a very subtle texture to the leaves. If you want more texture, cut leaves first and then emboss.

3. Stamp Sentiment on Very Vanilla card stock using Rose Red ink.

4. Use Scalloped Trim Border Punch on Pumpkin Pie card stock strip. Adhere under the Very Vanilla card stock.

5. Adhere Sweet and Sour DSP to Pumpkin Pie card stock. Adhere Very Vanilla and Pumpkin Pie border. Add Ribbon. Use Tombo Glue to adhere leaves. Cut out dry rose and use dimensionals to pop up over the leaves.

Tips:
I tried to dry my rose with the heat gun. I found I had to be extra careful not to push the ink everywhere. It also tended to curl the card stock.

Lean the rose up against something as it is air drying so that the water runs to the bottoms of each section. This gives it more of a watercolour effect.

Try this technique on Glossy White card stock. It works but gives a different look.

DSP: 4 x 5 1/4

Very Vanilla: 2 x 5 1/4

Pocket Silhouette Gift Card with Envelope

Directions:

Envelope: Run Naturals White card stock through Big Shot with the Scalloped Envelope die. To make the patterned paper inside of card, place DSP on the upper half of the Scalloped Envelope die. Glue DSP to inside of Envelope. Let dry before folding. Tip: If you fold the flap before the DSP is dry, it will move on you.

Card:

1. Fold Natural White card stock in half making sure it folds to a card of 2 x 3.

2. Colour the flower stamp from Pocket Silhouettes set with Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Melon Mambo and Pink Pirouette Markers.

3. Stamp Sentiment in Old Olive ink

4. Punch out flowers using Itty Bitty Punch Pack in Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette and Cherry Cobbler card stock. Bend flowers around finger tip to give it a bit of dimenion. Glue to stamped image.

5. Add Basic Pearl Jewels to center of punched flowers. Tip: I find the best way to pick up the pearls (so they don't go flying) is to move it slightly off its spot with your finger tip and then pick it up with your tweezers.

Naturals White Card Base: 3 x 4

Naturals White Envelope: 4 1/4 x 5 1/2

Old Olive DSP: 2 1/2 x 3 1/4

Melon Mambo Scrap

For You Flower

I just LOVE everything about the designer series paper used on this card. I love the colours used as well as all the patterns on EACH SIDE of the paper. That is unusual for me. I will definitely be using up my whole pack very quickly.

Directions

1. Punch Whisper White strip with Dotted Scalloped Border Punch. Tape Scallop and the two pieces of patterned paper together. Tie Ribbon around and adhere to Early Espresso card base.

2. Using the For You Flower stamp, ink in Certainly Celery and stamp on Whisper White card stock. Punch out using the XL Fancy Flower Punch. YAY! YOU DON'T NEED TO CUT THE FLOWER OUT BY HAND!!

3. Clean stamp and colour the words in the circle with Baja Breeze, Tangerine Tango and Early Espresso Markers. Stamp on Whisper White card stock and punch out using the 1 3/8" Circle Punch. TIP: If you take a while to colour, you can "huff" on your stamp to re-moisten the ink before stamping on your card stock. Tape Circle to the center of the Celery Flower.

4. Build a Brad: Stamp flower from Itty Bitty Bits in Baja Breeze ink and punch out with the 1/2" Circle Punch. Add a glue dot to the back of the circle. Adhere to the part of the Build a Brad with the "stems". Add the Clear top of the brad. This has adhesive on it already so you do not need to add any more. Punch hole in the For You Flower with 1/16" Hand held punch and add brad.

5. Complete card by punching two Small Ovals out of Greenhouse Gala DSP. Add a dimensional to one end of the oval. Add dimensionals to the For You Flower. Stick Flower and Leaves to card.

Early Espresso Card Base: 4 1/4 x 11

Greenhouse Gala DSP: 4 1/4 x 1, 4 1/4 x 2 1/4 and Scraps for leaves

Itty Bitty Bits with Rich Razzleberry

1. Stamp sentiment on on Whisper White card stock with Basic Black ink. Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if you want perfect placement. :)

2. Stamp Itty Bitty Bits with Certainly Celery, Rich Razzleberry and Tempting Turquoise ink. Punch out with Itty Bitty Punches and glue to Whisper White card stock.

3. Score the long side of Tempting Turquoise card stock at 3". Punch the side closest to the score line with the Scalloped Border Punch. (When folded this should make a 3 x 3 square.) Adhere completed Whisper White square to inside and fold Turquoise scallop up adhering in place.

4. Add ribbon to bottom edge. You might have to add a bit of adhesive to keep it in place. Tie the ends with embroidery thread and add Itty Bitty Button. You can either tie it on with the piece of thread you used to tie the ribbon or use two separate pieces for each, using a glue dot to attach the button to the top of of the ribbon.

Rich Razzleberry Card Base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2

Tempting Turquoise: 3 x 4 1/2 (score at 3")

Pedaling Past

This set, Pedaling Past, is from the SU Summer Mini Catalogue. I love this set and it was one of the first I bought from this mini. I think it is very versatile and can be used for a variety of occasions.

The image is stamped on Watercolour Paper and then coloured in with ink and an aquapainter or blender pen. I find that the blender pen gives more of a marker-like effect to the image whereas with an aquapainter it works more like a paintbrush. Also, with an aquapainter, because it feels more like a paintbrush, you seem to have less control and might go over the lines. So I guess it depends on what kind of look you want.
