Candlelight Christmas Ornament

November Stamp Club Card

This card was inspired by one I was in the Holiday Mini Catalogue.

Directions:

Stamp four ornaments and die cut with Ornament framelits.  Complete using the Honeycomb Technique.  as a guideline to make the above card.

Paper pierce Apothecary Accent Die and sponge daub using Old Olive ink.

Adhere ornament to Apothecary Accent Die.

Add a short piece of gold ribbon to the back of the ornament and the Apothecary Accent Die. 

Tie a piece of gold ribbon in a bow and attach above the ornament with a rolled glue dot.

Add strips of Candlelight Designer Series paper and Champagne Glimmer Paper to Very Vanilla card stock.  

Tie on Old Olive Ribbon. (At our stamp club, we used Real Red Ribbon instead.) 

Adhere to Real Red card stock then the Very Vanilla card base.  

Complete card by attaching Apothecary Accent piece and Glimmer star.

Ex Libris

June Stamp Club Card

 

Directions:

Butterfly Image:

To make the focal butterfly, I used the Honeycomb Shapes Technique found on Splitcoaststampers.  You can find the instructions HERE. 

I embossed the Vanilla card stock, punched out 12 butterflies using the NEW Elegant Butterfly punch and sponged the top edges of each butterfly with Marina Mist ink and the bottom edges with Wild Wasabi ink.

NOTE:  If you want a fuller Honeycomb effect, you will need to punch up to 25 butterflies.

Adhere completed “honeycombed” butterfly to the Marina Mist Bigz butterfly.

Sentiment Banner:

I used the Out of the Box with Nestibilities Technique to create a longer banner.  (I saw this technique a long time ago and used the same concept to create the banner. HERE is the technique to give you an idea on how to do this with a framelit.)

Make sure the width of the Vanilla strip is slightly smaller than the framelit.  Around 7/8” should work but you might have to make some adjustments.

Stick one end of the card stock strip underneath the banner.  This is the end that will be cut.  The other end of the card stock strip will need to be pulled through so that it is lying on top of the banner. 

When you run the framelit and card stock through the Big Shot, make sure that you only turn until the one end of the banner is cut.  If you run it over the entire framelit, it will make an indent on the card stock where the opposite end of the framelit is.  That dent will probably turn out to be in the middle of the banner. 

Take out card stock, and turn around and complete other side of banner.

Stamp sentiment with Early Espresso ink and sponge.

Other instructions to complete card:

Stamp Ex Libris stamp on a large piece of Vanilla card stock.  Cut out rectangle image. Distress edges and sponge with Early Espresso ink.

Stamp Ex Libris again, cut out label image and sponge with Early Espresso ink.

Cut Early Espresso Banner in half and adhere to large rectangle Ex Libris.  Pop up label image of Ex Libris with dimensionals and place over the Espresso banners.  Adhere butterfly to the label.

Place edgelit 1/8” away from edge of Marina Mist card stock strip.  Run through the Big Shot.  Use a paper piercer to punch out any eyelet pieces that didn’t fall out.

Add border, ribbon, sentiment banner and pearls to card.

Manhattan Flowers in Watercolour

May Stamp Club

I found my inspiration to this card in the 2011-12 Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalogue on page 181.  Now that I look back on the card in the catalogue, I realized that I wanted to add tiny pearls to the centers of the roses.  I forgot!!  I will have to go back and add them. 

I think this is a fairly basic card to make just by looking at the card so there really aren't a lot of directions.  I do have a couple of things to note, as usual.

The roses are created by using the Manhattan Flowers Embossing Folder on Watercolour Paper.  They are coloured with an Aquapainter using.... get this..... CAJUN CRAZE ink....  Can you believe it?  I find that Cajun Craze is such a rusty colour and it comes out quite peachy (no pun intended) on the watercolour paper.  I also added some Old Olive ink to create the effect of leaves.

The Oval Designer Frame was used on Early Espresso card stock.  I added another shim (thin piece of card board) to the Big Shot "sandwich" because I tore the oval rather than cut it out.

Mouthwatering

April Stamp Club Card

I am pretty sure I found this layout on the lime doodle blog.  She has some really nice clean and simple cards.  Easy to CASE exactly or step it up a notch with more layers. 

As you can obviously see, I used the watermelon image from the Mouthwatering stamp set.  Unfortunately you cannot smell the watermelon scent of the embossing powder.  The ironic thing is that I do not like watermelon or the real or fake scent and flavour of this fruit.  But for some strange reason I just had to buy the e.p. so I could use it with this stamp.  So, even though I don't eat watermelon, I really like the look of this card.  :)

Here are the deets....

Embossing Watermelon image:

Colour stamp using Riding Hood Red and Old Olive Marker.  Stamp on Whisper White scrap card stock.  


Tip:  Use the 2-1/2" Circle Punch to punch out watermelon. (Or you can just use scissors to cut it out.  :)  )  Then use scissors to cut straight edge of watermelon.


Place stamped image directly on Versamark ink pad and gently tap so that entire piece gets covered with Versamark ink.  


Cover with embossing powder (Watermelon Scented used here) and heat.  



There seems to be a lot of cards out there with a banner on the card.  If the banner is not too wide, you can always use your square punch to make the bottom edge into the two flags or points.  This card stock was wider and I didn't want to measure where the center of the card was and then have to cut it out.  So I used a label framelit to cut off the bottom edge of the card stock.

All you need to do is place your card stock on your Big Shot and place the top edge of the Labels framelit on the bottom edge of the card stock.  Make sure it lines up evenly and then run it through.

April Stamp Club: Part 2

Brayered Vintage Wallpaper

I was looking around Splitcoaststampers and saw THIS note bag which inspired the card we made at our Stamp Club workshop in April.  I thought brayering over the debossed side of the card stock was a neat idea and really like the effect.

Brayer on Debossed Card Stock:

Run the Early Espresso card stock in Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder through the Big Shot.  Lay the card stock down, making sure the embossed image is indented. Ink up brayer in Early Espresso ink and roll over card stock until ink is even over the entire piece of card stock.  The debossed image, or indented parts, will not have any ink on them so they will appear lighter in colour. 

Use the Early Espresso and Tangerine Tango markers to colour the words on the Word Play stamp.  Huff on stamp before stamping on card stock.

Run one Tangerine Tango flower through the Big Shot in the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder.  Sponge all edges of flowers, punched out leaves and card stock with sentiment.  You can add a score line to the center of the leaves if you wish.

Use a paper piercer to add a brad to the center of the flowers.

Adhere layers of card stock and flowers.  Use a two-way glue pen to glue the thin strip of tangerine tango card stock to the card.  Pop of the flower with a dimensional.

Very Vanilla:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2;  1-3/8 x 3-3/8

Tangerine Tango:  3-7/8 x 5-1/8;  3/8 strip for scalloped border;  1/8 x 3/8:  squares for two flowers

Fall to Layout 135

Today I had a chance to work on a sketch challenge ~ the Fall to Layout 135 from the Clean and Simple blog.  It was a fun way to spend part of the afternoon.  It was a beautiful afternoon (15 degrees Celsius) where I really should have been outside washing my windows ~ wiping away the winter grime.  Tomorrow is always another day....to stamp some more.  :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

I really like the Love Impressions DSP in the Occasions mini.  But you can't buy everything!!!  I saw a card with a similar layout online but it used the DSP.  Like I said, I don't have that paper so I created a similar look using the Timeless Type Junior Alphabet sizzlet dies.  It did take a while to glue those letters on.  But I think it was worth it in the end!  :)

Part 2: December Stamp Club Card

A Punched Cardinal Christmas

I saw this card online two days before the Stamp Club was going to meet and thought we just had to make this card.  Many sites displayed their with a punched cardinal card but didn't have instructions or you had to pay to download them.  I found one site HERE with very clear instructions.  Thank you to the Stamping for Sanity Blog.   Love her cards!

Directions:

1.  Make the cardinal using the Two-Step Bird Punch and the above instructions.  You can use the Tombo Liquid Glue or a Two-way Glue Pen to stick the bird together.  Add dimensionals to the back.

2.  Punch out a label in Whisper White card stock with the Decorative Label Punch.  Add Dimensionals to the back.

3.  Stamp "Seasons Greetings" with Old Olive ink on the Whisper White card base.

4.  Using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, run the front half of the White card base through the Big Shot.  Make sure that it will emboss so the dots are "bumpy" at the front of the card.

5.  Adhere all pieces together.

Part 1: December Stamp Club Cards

Northern Flurry in Baja Breeze

Directions:

1.  Place Baja Breeze card stock in embossing folder and run through Big Shot.  Using a sponge dauber and Whisper White craft ink, lightly rub or tap the raised snowflakes.  Add varying sizes of pearls to snowflakes.  TIP:  To remove pearls from sheet, carefully move the pearl "off it's spot" with your finger.  Then use a tweezer to pick up pearl and place.   

Ribbon:

2.  Tape the Baja Breeze card stock to Whisper White card stock.  Cut a "v" in the one end of a long piece of ribbon.  Tape the other end to the back of the white card stock.  Use a glue dot in the front if it is not lying flat.  With a shorter piece of ribbon, tape ends together to make a "circle".  Make flat and use glue dots to adhere to longer ribbon.  

3.  Stamp "Merry Christmas" in Not Quite Navy ink.   Punch out using Decorative Label Punch.  Stamp snowflake in Baja Breeze.  Adhere to top of ribbon with a dimensional.

Option:  Sponge edges of Baja Breeze card stock with Whisper White ink and a Sponge Dauber.

Part 1: November Stamp Club Card

We weren't able to get together for our November Stamp Club meeting because of the weather ~ a winter storm.  So last night, at our December Club get-together, we made our November and December projects.  We made four cards and one 3D item.  Since that would end up being one long post, I'm going to spread them out.  So stay posted.  Here is Part 1 of the November cards.

Joyful Season with Letterpress Plate

Directions:

1.  On letterpress plate, ink "stockings" with Old Olive Craft ink and "joyful season" with Cherry Cobbler Craft ink.

2.  Place letterpress plate face up directly on tab 1 of Big Shot multipurpose platform.  Add Dotto to back of watercolour paper and stick to clear cutting pad.  CAREFULLY place paper and cutting pad on top of the letterpress plate.  Line up carefully and holding firmly, wind through the Big Shot.

3.  Assemble card.

September Stamp Club

Watercolouring with Reinkers 

When I first saw cards using the watercolouring technique using reinkers (sometimes called Reinker Spread Technique) it was one of those things I had to try immediately.  And it is so much fun!

Patty Bennett, a Stampin' Up! demonstrator has a great tutorial video on how to make the flowers, so I won't repeat her instructions in this post.  Click HERE to see her tutorial.

The rest of the card goes as follows:

1.  Create flower first so that it has time to dry.  Then cut around embossed line.

2.  To create leaves, use the Square Lattice Folder and Big Shot to emboss Old Olive card stock.  Now use the Little Leaves Sizzlet on the embossed Old Olive card stock.  Cut three.  Tip:  By making your leaves in this order, it gives a very subtle texture to the leaves.  If you want more texture, cut leaves first and then emboss.

3.  Stamp Sentiment on Very Vanilla card stock using Rose Red ink.

4.  Use Scalloped Trim Border Punch on Pumpkin Pie card stock strip.  Adhere under the Very Vanilla card stock. 

5.  Adhere Sweet and Sour DSP to Pumpkin Pie card stock.  Adhere Very Vanilla and Pumpkin Pie border.  Add Ribbon.  Use Tombo Glue to adhere leaves.  Cut out dry rose and use dimensionals to pop up over the leaves.

Tips: 
I tried to dry my rose with the heat gun.  I found I had to be extra careful not to push the ink everywhere.  It also tended to curl the card stock. 

Lean the rose up against something as it is  air drying so that the water runs to the bottoms of each section.  This gives it more of a watercolour effect.

Try this technique on Glossy White card stock.  It works but gives a different look.

 Pocket Silhouette Gift Card with Envelope

Directions:

Envelope:  Run Naturals White card stock through Big Shot with the Scalloped Envelope die.  To make the patterned paper inside of card, place DSP on the upper half of the Scalloped Envelope die.  Glue DSP to inside of Envelope.  Let dry before folding.  Tip:  If you fold the flap before the DSP is dry, it will move on you.

Card:

1.  Fold Natural White card stock in half making sure it folds to a card of 2 x 3.

2.  Colour the flower stamp from Pocket Silhouettes set with Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Melon Mambo and Pink Pirouette Markers.

3.  Stamp Sentiment in Old Olive ink

4.  Punch out flowers using Itty Bitty Punch Pack in Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette and Cherry Cobbler card stock.  Bend flowers around finger tip to give it a bit of dimenion.  Glue to stamped image.

5.  Add Basic Pearl Jewels to center of punched flowers.  Tip:  I find the best way to pick up the pearls (so they don't go flying) is to move it slightly off its spot with your finger tip and then pick it up with your tweezers.

Beautiful Burlap Butterfly

I have been wanting to try other materials in the Big Shot for a while now. Up until this card, I have only tried die cutting card stock. So a little while ago, I went to the fabric store and picked up some felt and burlap. I was very happy with the results of how easily the Big Shot cut through these materials.

There are a number of things I would like to point about this card:

I found that the burlap was very prone to fraying. To keep it from fraying away, I used some clear nail polish along the edges of the back of the butterfly. I let it dry before gluing on the felt butterflies.

The burlap and chocolate butterflies are from the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die. The Rose butterfly is from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit die.

The Perfect Polka Dots Folder is used on the Chocolate Chip background. I did not place the entire piece of card stock in the folder, but just put it about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way in the folder.

March Stamp Club

Beautiful Butterflies

1. Score two lines (using a Scor-Pal or ruler and bone folder) at 1/4" and 1/2" from the bottom of card base and again from the top of the card base. If you are using the Scor-Pal you will have to line up your card at the 4" mark.

2. Adhere the strip of Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper about 1/4" above the scored lines. Tie ribbon.

3. To make large Rich Razzleberry butterfly, place card stock over the large butterfly of the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and wind through BigShot. Place cut butterfly on top of the Swirls side of the Perfect Details Texturz Plate. Wind through Big Shot. Your butterfly will be beautifully embossed with swirls. (Please note that I haven't listed the details in "making your sandwich" when using the Bigz die or Texturz Plate.)

4. To make the patterned butterfly, stamp the Fine Flourish stamp in Rich Razzleberry on Whisper White card stock. Stamp the Butterfly Accent stamp with VersaMark on top of the Fine Flourish image. Colour butterfly with blender pen and Orchid Opulence. Sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder and heat. Cut out butterfly and place on top of large Razzleberry butterfly. Attach with a silver brad. Use dimensionals to pop up butterfly from card base.

Viola!! You're done!

Artfully Asian Easel Card

To make an Easel Card, CLICK HERE to follow directions. I changed the dimensions on our card to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2. See below for dimensions of card stock.

Main Image:

1. On the Whisper White card stock, stamp the "Iris" stamp with Almost Amethyst ink across bottom of card stock. Over top of that, stamp the "Bird and Bamboo" stamp with Elegant Eggplant ink on a third to half of the card stock.

2. Colour in birds with blender pen and Almost Amethyst and Elegant Eggplant ink.

3. Use sponge dauber with Elegant Eggplant ink along edges of Whisper White card stock.

4. Run the Beautiful Wings Embosslit die with Elegant Eggplant card stock through the Big Shot. Adhere to card stock with dimensional.

Bottom strip:

1. On the Almost Amethyst strip of card stock, stamp the "iris" stamp in Almost Amethyst ink. Add sentiment in Elegant Eggplant.

2. Glue on "leftover" butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit die.

3. Use the Scallop Trim Border Punch to punch edge closest to the pre-scored line on the Elegant Eggplant strip of card stock. (I pre-scored this strip so that it easily folds upwards to hold the card in place as an easel. Please see instructions on Easel card HERE.)

4. Adhere Almost Amethyst strip up against scored line of Elegant Eggplant strip.

To complete card:

1. Adhere largest piece of Whisper White card stock to inside of Easel. Adhere Scalloped and stamped Eggplant and Amethyst strip to bottom edge of Whisper White card stock.

2. NOW add glitter to main image of card. Use Two-Way Glue pen and add to the areas you want glitter (bamboo leaves and butterfly). Add Fine Cosmo Glitter to areas with glue. NOTE: I always like to add glitter once the card is complete and all pieces are adhered together. This way I won't accidentally handle the glitter and smudge it if the glue is not completely dry.

Almost Amethyst card base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2

Inside Whisper White piece: 5 1/4 x 4

Elegant Eggplant strip: 5 1/4 x 2 (score at 1/2")

Almost Amethyst: 5 1/4 x 1 1/4

Elegant Eggplant: 4 7/8 x 3 5/8

Whisper White: 4 3/4 x 3 1/2
Elegant Eggplant: scrap
