Pleasant Poppies on Vellum

March Stamp Card

I always like cards that have vellum on them.  It gives such a nice effect to the card.  I saw THIS card on one of my favourite blogs: Limedoodle.   I get so much inspiration from her blog.  Her cards are very clean and simple.  Anyway... I saw her card and this is what I came up with.

Just a few directions:

Stamp the Pleasant Poppies stamp set in Whisper White ink on the vellum card stock.  Add white embossing powder and heat carefully.  If you heat too much you might either burn the vellum or heat it too much and the vellum curls a bit.

Use markers to colour in the poppies.  

On this card, I spritzed the vellum lightly with water and quickly and carefully pressed a kleenex over top to take some of the water off.  Don't spray too much or the paper might curl.  This gives the poppies a more water coloured  or mottled effect.  Laying the the piece under some heavy books for a while will also help keep the vellum flat.  Note:  I did have left over supplies so I made some more of these cards.  This time I did not add water and as a result I didn't have to struggle with the curling vellum.  So I'm very sorry stamp club members, next time we won't add water to the vellum.  I also dabbed at the poppies with a kleenex soon after I coloured one to take some of the ink off.  That had a nice effect as well.

On the reverse side, place glue dots behind the poppies to help adhere the piece to the vanilla card stock.  Note:  If you place glue dots where there is not an image, the glue dots will be seen through the vellum.

Add brads to corners  and complete card.

The square punch was used to punch the flags on the vellum and DSP strip.

Mouthwatering

April Stamp Club Card

I am pretty sure I found this layout on the lime doodle blog.  She has some really nice clean and simple cards.  Easy to CASE exactly or step it up a notch with more layers. 

As you can obviously see, I used the watermelon image from the Mouthwatering stamp set.  Unfortunately you cannot smell the watermelon scent of the embossing powder.  The ironic thing is that I do not like watermelon or the real or fake scent and flavour of this fruit.  But for some strange reason I just had to buy the e.p. so I could use it with this stamp.  So, even though I don't eat watermelon, I really like the look of this card.  :)

Here are the deets....

Embossing Watermelon image:

Colour stamp using Riding Hood Red and Old Olive Marker.  Stamp on Whisper White scrap card stock.  


Tip:  Use the 2-1/2" Circle Punch to punch out watermelon. (Or you can just use scissors to cut it out.  :)  )  Then use scissors to cut straight edge of watermelon.


Place stamped image directly on Versamark ink pad and gently tap so that entire piece gets covered with Versamark ink.  


Cover with embossing powder (Watermelon Scented used here) and heat.  



There seems to be a lot of cards out there with a banner on the card.  If the banner is not too wide, you can always use your square punch to make the bottom edge into the two flags or points.  This card stock was wider and I didn't want to measure where the center of the card was and then have to cut it out.  So I used a label framelit to cut off the bottom edge of the card stock.

All you need to do is place your card stock on your Big Shot and place the top edge of the Labels framelit on the bottom edge of the card stock.  Make sure it lines up evenly and then run it through.

Wonderful Pinwheels

You may have noticed that pinwheels seem to be all the rage right now.  Stampin' Up has a new stamp set in the current and NEW catalogue that have a variety of pinwheels ~ Sweet for the Sweets set.  I have also seen a number of cards out there with actual pinwheels on them.  I thought that was such a cute idea and when I saw THIS CARD I decided I need to try making them for myself.  I had never made a pinwheel before, or at least not since I was a child, so I had to go on you tube to find instructions.

There are a couple of details you might like to know about this card....

The square size of the pinwheels is 2" x 2".  As you can see that makes them quite large.  The card that I CASED had smaller pinwheels.

To make the pinwheel "sticks" or holders, I used the birdcage stand from the Aviary stamp set.  Just make sure the "legs" of the stand don't show up on your card.

To make the pinwheel I found that I couldn't hold down the inner points with my fingers very easily.  So what I did was place my paper on the foam of the Mat Pack, fold in a corner and hold it down with my paper piercer.  And keep doing that with all four corners.  When they are all in place, just press firmly to make a hole through all corners and poke piercer all the way through.  Now add your brad through the hole.  Viola!  And there's your pinwheel.

Pinwheels

My boys have been at a summer day camp all week.    Today is the last day.  :(  I have been able to get lots done this week:  errands, shopping, a pedicure and lunch out with friends, finished the book called The Help, house cleaning and STAMPING to list a few things that have kept me busy.   So I hope to post a little more regularly in the next month.  But no promises.  :) 

The pinwheels measure at 2 x 2 and 1.5 x 1.5.  You can see more details regarding the pinwheel cards in the next post.
